“Empowering those we serve…”

Taylor first met Innovista Ireland when she was working as a Residents’ Assistant at a the YWCA in Dublin, providing accommodation and a ‘home away from home’ for international students who were in the city to learn English.

She took part in a coaching workshop, and then Innovista Ireland provided bespoke workshops for the YWCA team of staff and volunteers.

The coaching workshop equipped Taylor with the theory surrounding coaching, and then helped her apply it through practical exercises and easy examples.

Taylor thinks it made a real difference to how she interacted with the students:

“We learned how to better empower those we serve; not to mother them but to equip them to lead themselves.”

Help to tackle disconnect

The bespoke workshop for the team of staff and volunteers helped them to connect their organisation’s vision with their everyday work, supporting and encouraging these young people to lead change in society.

“It was really encouraging to feel a fresh sense of unity & recognise that each of us bring something different to the team. I felt individually empowered but also felt a better a sense of team.

The training helped us help others, better enacting the vision of the YWCA; not just about us making changes but also asking those we serve ‘what are you going to do to change?’”

Through every step

Taylor’s leadership journey didn’t end at the YWCA. In 2019, she became the family and youth worker at St Catherine’s, a large evangelical church in Dublin City Centre.

This role allowed Taylor to continue walking with Innovista, and growing as a leader. She was able to lead young adults in the church through an Innovista resource called Find Your Place, and regularly attended leaders’ lunches. These events brought together Christian leaders from across Dublin, to learn together and from each other.
